Reading and maths support
Structured teaching for your child, with progress you can see.
Some children find reading, spelling or maths hard, however much effort they put in. Our programs give them explicit, systematic teaching in the skills they’re missing, in a small group or one-to-one, with progress measured through the term and shared with your child’s school.
Term 1 2027 enrolments now open. In person in Mount Barker.
Who it’s for
For children who need more than practice.
Reading and spelling programs for children in Years 1 to 8. You don’t need a diagnosis or a report to start: a Reading Check tells us exactly where to begin.
This is specialised, structured teaching of the foundational skills that fluent reading and accurate spelling are built on. It isn’t homework help or subject tutoring.
Programs are a good fit for
- Children behind in reading or spelling
- Children with dyslexia or a specific learning difficulty in literacy
- Families considering a dyslexia assessment, who need documented, targeted teaching first
- Families who want a report’s recommendations put into practice

About groups. A group runs once at least two children of similar skill and age are enrolled, up to a maximum of three. If we can’t form a suitable group, we’ll offer a one-to-one program or a place on the waitlist, and you won’t be charged for a group that doesn’t run.
After an Initial Learning Consultation, the $75 credit applies to a first term program booked within 30 days. Programs are paid per term in advance or in two instalments. Program terms
Our approach
Grounded in the science of reading, and measured.
How we teach
Our programs follow a structured literacy approach. Children are taught explicitly and systematically how sounds and letters work, how to blend and segment words, and how to read and spell with growing accuracy and fluency. Each session builds on the last, and we use regular, objective measures to check progress and adjust what we teach.
Thinking about a dyslexia assessment?
Before diagnosing a specific learning disorder such as dyslexia, psychologists usually look for evidence that difficulties have persisted despite at least six months of targeted, evidence-based teaching. Our programs record exactly that: what was taught, how often and how your child responded. With your consent, we share that record with your psychologist, and after an assessment we help put its recommendations into practice.
Working with your child’s school
One plan, at home and at school.
With your consent, we share an updated School Learning Action Brief each term, with goals, progress and suggested classroom adjustments. Where your child’s school runs its own literacy program, we align our teaching with it, so your child isn’t learning two different systems.
Who leads the programs
Programs are designed and led by Matt Linn, a registered teacher and former school leader with a Master of Education and extensive experience in educational assessment. Matt is trained in DIBELS 8 literacy assessment.

Questions
Questions parents often ask.
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No. Many children we work with have no diagnosis. The Reading Check tells us where to start.
Is this tutoring?
It’s specialised, structured literacy teaching, not homework help or subject tutoring. Sessions focus on the foundational skills behind fluent reading and accurate spelling.
How long will my child need?
It depends on the child. Most benefit from at least two or three terms. We review progress with you every term.
What if a group doesn’t fill?
A group runs once at least two children of similar skill and age are enrolled. If we can’t form a suitable group, we’ll offer a one-to-one program or a place on the waitlist, and you won’t be charged for a group that doesn’t run.
How are fees paid?
Programs are paid per term in advance, or in two instalments. The Reading Check is paid at the appointment.
What if we miss a session?
One-to-one programs include one make-up session per term with at least 24 hours’ notice. For group programs we send home practice materials instead.
Can I claim this through Medicare or my health fund?
Our programs are educational services, so they’re generally not claimable through Medicare or private health insurance.
If your child needs a formal diagnosis, that comes from a psychologist. We’ll tell you if that’s the right next step, and we help you put any report into practice.
