Consultations
Sometimes the most helpful first step isn’t another assessment.
It’s having someone take the time to understand what’s happening. Our consultations give you that time, with an experienced educator and assessor, and leave you with clear next steps.
The best place to start
The Initial Learning Consultation.
Initial Learning Consultation
Forty-five minutes to talk it through properly.
A dedicated appointment to discuss your child’s learning in depth before deciding whether an assessment is needed. It stands on its own: you leave with a clear, written summary of the next steps, whatever they turn out to be.
- Your child’s strengths, challenges and learning history
- Your priorities, and the school’s perspective
- School reports or previous assessments you send ahead
- Strategies already tried, and the questions still unanswered
- Sensible next steps: assessment, planning, working with the school, or another professional
How the 45 minutes work
- 0 to 10 minYour main concerns and hopes for your child
- 10 to 20 minLearning history, strengths and context
- 20 to 30 minSchool experiences, strategies tried and information you’ve shared
- 30 to 40 minOptions and possible next steps
- 40 to 45 minAgree priorities and what your summary will cover
It’s a professional conversation, not a rigid interview, so we follow what matters most to you.
Your written summary
A concise one-page summary, sent securely, covering:
- the questions and concerns we discussed
- strengths and relevant context
- information we considered
- agreed priorities
- recommended next steps, which may include an assessment, a school conversation or another professional
- any limits or questions still open
Not included: a comprehensive assessment, a diagnosis, or a detailed 10-week plan. If one of those would help, we’ll explain the options, with prices, and you decide.
$75 credit towards an assessment
So you never pay twice for the same conversation: after an Initial Learning Consultation, you’ll receive a $75 credit towards one eligible assessment package booked within 30 days. It applies once per child, and doesn’t apply to the standalone $199 Wadmore Cognitive Profile or to follow-up appointments. Whatever we discussed carries forward, so you won’t need to repeat yourself.
All consultations
Time to talk, when you need it.
All fees are in Australian dollars and include GST. Follow-up appointments are always optional.

What to expect
A thoughtful experience, built around your child.
Children deserve to feel comfortable, respected and encouraged. We take time to listen, explain what will happen, make room for breaks and recognise each child’s individual needs.
How to explain it to your child
“We’re going to do some learning activities together to understand what feels easy, what feels tricky and what helps.”
Before
We send simple, age-appropriate wording to help you explain the session, and let you know if there’s anything to bring. There’s nothing to study for.
On the day
We start with a chat, explain each activity and build in breaks. Most children find the tasks interesting.
Afterwards
We talk with you first, in plain language, then help you share what’s useful with your child and school in a positive, strengths-first way.
Because understanding a child begins with listening to them.
